    Description

This artwork represents a face to face of "feathered snakes" (Quetzalcóatl) against a background of tags. The canvas in the Graffiti Story series are based on two major elements: the "Oré" graffiti signature and the Quetzalcóatl stencil.

Firstly, I repeat the signature so that it occupies the bottom of the canvas. This evokes the act of spreading his graffiti name (tag) in the streets. The tag remains indeed for me the founding act as a painter: sign my name and paint lettering in the city are the origins of my artistic practice.

The representation of the pre-Columbian feathered snake, Quetzalcóatl, is a work that I started later, following my trips in Mexico. These trips made me discover the art of the Mayan and Aztec civilizations, of which the god Quetzalcóatl is a central element.

The presence of feathered snakes in the foreground with tags in the background symbolizes the chronological evolution of my pictorial universe.

“Paint the city of our thousand utopias in a hundred colors”

Currently settled in Normandy, ORÉ began graffiti in 1989. After 10 years of graffiti activism, he discovered during trips to Mexico the mythical pre-Columbian feathered snake, Quetzalcóatl, which will become a central element of his artistic work.

While he still continues to paint spontaneously in the public space, he also creates frescoes as part of official orders, and exhibits his artworks in France and abroad.

He is a regular guest for residencies or performances at urban art events and festivals.

Beyond his passion for the Mayan mythology and the Quetzalcóatl, as a protean artist ORÉ explores all types of themes through a wide variety of techniques (stencil, freehand aerosol, perch roll, collage...).

We can see his Quetzalcóatl carved in wood, then stuck on the walls at the six corners of the hexagon (Paris, Lille, Marseilles, Montpellier, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Lyon ...) and in the streets of major foreign cities (Athens, Barcelona, Berlin, Bilbao, Brussels, Hamburg, London, Mexico City, Vancouver, Los Angeles, Tokyo).

Since 2011, in parallel to his career as an urban artist, ORÉ has created artworks of Land Art: he made a first monumental stone lettering in Greece at the bottom of Mount Olympus. He since continues this creative path in natural landscapes according to his travels: Valley of Death in California, Bardenas Desert in Spain, Finnish Lapland…
